In this atypical year, many of these events will be modified.  Stay tuned for more information as we change our traditions while keeping the tradition of community at Bates alive!

FALL EVENTS

New Family Coffee

Before school starts new families to Bates are invited for a meet and greet over coffee.  The New Family Coordinator is available to answer questions and the principal usually gives a tour of the school.

Back to School Night

Back to School Nights is a parent only opportunity to meet the faculty and hear about the upcoming curriculum and events scheduled for each child's classroom.  The night is typically divided into 2 sessions with a message from the prinicpal inbetween:  K-2 and 3-5 so that parents with multiple children at Bates can try to visit each class.

Class Socials

One family in each class or grade hosts an evening get together for the parents.  The hosts pick the date and ask parents to bring either an appetizer or a dessert.  Families are able to socialize and get to know one another as the school year is just beginning.  Great way for new families to get acquainted to other parents and the Bates community.

5th Grade Pumpkin Brigade

The Pumpkin Fair requires many pounds of pumpkins.  These precious gourds are carried into the gym by our tremendous 5th graders.  Pumpkins are then priced and moved back to the pumpkin patch the morning of the Pumpkin Fair by our local Cub Scout Pack.

Halloween Parade

Halloween morning kids come dressed in their Halloween finest to parade around the school grounds.  Parents and caregivers enjoy the parade while drinking hot coffee care of the PTO.

Bates Family Ski Trip

Each year Bates families get together for a weekend on the slopes. For the past several years we have been going to Waterville Valley, NH.  Kids and parents enjoy 2 days of skiing and a family dinner on Saturday night with entertainment for the kids.  Dates vary year to year.

100th Day of School

The 100th Day of School usually falls in early February.  Kindergarteners and 1st graders participate in an "around the world" morning of activities, visiting each classroom with games, art, math, movement, etc...all geared towards the #100.

Bates in Bloom

Bates in Bloom usually occurs in mid March.  It is an evening for the entire family to celebrate the progress and accomplishments of every Bates student.  You are invited to walk the halls to see amazing artwork and visit classrooms to see your children's work.

Bates Mini Marathon

The entire Bates community runs a "mini marathon" in the beginning of April by doing laps around the building. If they choose to, students will be able to collect pledges before the mini marathon for a special cause.  Our 2nd annual Mini Marathon will be held on April 4, 2013 and once again, we will raise funds for Friends of Wellesley METCO.

Artstravaganza

Every other spring, Bates hosts an "art exstravaganza" or street fair of performances.  Kids design their own performance either by themselves or with friends.  Performances can be music based, dance, art projects...the kids' creativity is something to be seen by the entire family.

Science Fair

Every other spring Bates hosts a science fair.  Like Arstravaganza, projects are driven by the kids and groups are formed outside of school.  Parents and siblings are invited to explore the gym, cafeteria and library where our young minds will teach you a thing or two.

Bates Family Picnic

Towards the end of the school year, Bates families gather for a relaxing evening of socializing on the field next to Bates.  Parents bring blankets & chairs and a picnic dinner.  Family Programs organizes the event and sometimes invites the ice cream truck or organizes a friendly athletic event for parents, teachers and kids to participate in.

Bates Auction

Every other spring Bates hosts an auction to raise funds for the PTO.
